Our Military Museum
has many fine examples of Ships equipment... Clocks, Bells, Anchor's and this
Ships Compass Housing or BINNACLE. A prime example of Navigational equipment.
The Red and Green spheres are simple lumps of IRON which could be moved and fixed
along the Brass arms to compensate for the magnetic effects of the STEEL SHIP.

The dial at the front is a ROLL Indicator showing the amount of roll the ship was taking..
this indicator the "Sestrel" model shows roll of PLUS and MINUS 40 DEGREES...
They expected ROUGH seas in 1944 when this Binnacle was manufactured by RAY & Co of Liverpool.
