Some Close Up Pictures of a completed
Airfix Supermarine Spitfire MK1A in 1:24 Scale

Airfix used to have a name for producing low cost Models that were
easy to assemble but a little lacking in detail.

They proved everyone wrong when they produced this superb Model of
the famous Spitfire MK1A of WW2.

The detailing is second to none.  The assembly time of the MERLIN engine was over 5 hours alone...
the whole kit taking over 40 hours to assemble to the degree you can see in the pictures.

There are less than 200 parts to assemble, but each one is in 1:24 scale and is super detailed..
many of the parts need to be hand painted in multiple colours before assembly..  they cannot
be reached once the model is assembled.

The detailing is so accurate,  the engraved ROLLS ROYCE panels and head bolts on
the Merlin V12 engine are clearly visible.
The individual bolts of the Supercharger assembly are modelled...
the Oil tank, hydraulic system and electrical connections can also be clearly seem on the
engine compartment bulkhead.
The 8 wing mounted Browning 50Cal machine Cannons are individually modelled
together with the associated ammunition magazines.
Access Covers are removable giving access to each cannon and magazine.

Rubber tyres and a fully retractable undercarriage are also featured.

The instrument panel is also superbly detailed and can be illuminated from behind with LED lighting
kits is required... the navigation lights are also capable of being illuminated.

The Cockpit canopy slides too, allowing access and removal of the fully detailed Pilot in WW2 dress.

Many possibilities for assembly are available...
a Static display on ground with the aircraft undergoing maintenance... as shown
in the pictures above where access covers are removed
... or..a completed "flying" Spitfire with all access covers fitted in place
are two possibilities.
