Infra Red Night Vision equipment

The Infra Red Monocular night vision unit shown above is modified by our own
engineers from the standard issue Infra Red Binocular used by Infantry drivers.
The modification is carried out for two reasons....
1) the original was designed to be clamped to the standard soldiers helmet !!!
2) the cost of finding 2 active vision tubes with matching characteristics was prohibitive.

Comprising two units connected by a single cable the IRM simply converts
Infra Red Light into Visible light... the resultant image being Green in colour and clearly
visible through the viewer when held to the eye.
The other unit (left in the picture) is the main power supply which operates on
a single C Size Battery (U11...HP11...R12 etc)

IMPORTANT NOTE:
The IRM will NOT operate without suitable Infra Red illumination. The original use was
within vehicles fitted with Infra Red filters over the main driving headlamps.
We are able to supply suitable filters for use with the IRM... these are placed in front of
a "normal" light source (high power lamp / spot light etc) and are priced at £20 (4.5 inches dia)
and £25 each (6.5 inches dia)

The IRM MUST NOT BE EXPOSED TO BRIGHT SUNLIGHT UNDER
ANY CIRCUMSTANCES... TO DO SO WILL RUIN IT'S PERFORMANCE
.

It is for this reason that we do not warrant the operation of the IRM for more than 7 days..
and then NOT where the tube has been exposed (the result of which is obvious !!)
Just one minute with sunlight hitting the lens (whether the IRM is ON or OFF) will render
it totally useless

The IRM has got one very good advantage over Image Intensification systems in that
it can still be used to view through smoke and fog. Image Intensifiers simply amplify
the light reflected from smoke etc... so you get an effect of "White Out" similar to
using your cars HEAD BEAM in FOG... similar but 1000's of times worse !!!!
Infra Red Illumination seems to "Cut Through" smoke and fog allowing
somewhat limited vision.
